Other locality
Probably common and widespread but patchily distributed , in rivers and streams. Found in saline canals at Surfer's Paradise, Tallebudgera and Nerang River.

Lives in both fresh and brackish water. A suitable fish for stocking slightly brackish ponds on real estate developments.
Threats
Weirs and dams prevent migration into salt water, where it breeds. May suffer competition from the introduced mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis).
