Other locality
Although probably in decline, this large lizard is till widespread and not uncommon in the region.
General ecology
Eucalypt forest, rainforest, woodland.
Specific ecology
Trees for climbing.
Habitat comment
Important in forest ecosystems as a scavenger. Often found tame around picnic grounds where it steals meat, but not otherwise tolerant of high levels of human disturbance.
Threats
Evidence suggests that goana numbers decline in the wake of cane toad invasions.
